Docking To Preach Tuna Sustainability In San Diego

A Greenpeace vessel, on a mission to spread the message of sustainable tuna fishing, has docked along San Diego’s Embarcadero.

On its tour from Canada to San Diego, Greenpeace has talked in each city about best practices in tuna fishing, with a tailor-made message for every stop.

From the late 20’s to the late 60’s, the tuna industry flourished in San Diego, becoming a major employer. Foreign competition from cheaper Japanese frozen tuna eroded San Diego’s share of the tuna market. But the industry still survives in the city today through being the home of Bumble Bee Foods head office, owners of one of the American big three tuna brands.
