Pew Asks For Support To Urge NOAA To Strengthen Bluefin Protections Global, September 16, 13

The Pew Charitable Trusts are asking for support in urging NOAA to strengthen bluefin tuna protections that have recently been proposed.

Earlier this year, over 190,000 people signed to encourage the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to protect depleted bluefin tuna from surface longline fishing. NOAA recently announced proposals to help make this happen.
But Pew believes; while the proposed rule is a start, further regulations need to be put in place to better protect bluefin tuna. Pew is urging people to complete and send letters from its website in order to show NOAA the kind of support increased protection measures have.
The environmental initiative trust asks: “Please join us in calling for greater protections in the Gulf of Mexico, fair bluefin quota allocations, increased monitoring of the longline fleet, and an end to the waste of this incredible fish. Send your letter now!”
