Greenpeace Ship Begins First Indonesian Tour Since Being Deported

Arrival Rainbow Warrior in Yayapura, Indonesia

The Greenpeace campaign vessel, the Rainbow Warrior, arrived in Jayapura, Indonesia yesterday to document one of the world’s most biodiverse – and threatened –  environments,  just three years after the Indonesian navy escorted the vessel out of its territorial waters in October 2010.

In a meeting with Greenpeace International Executive Director Kumi Naidoo, in Jakarta on June 7, 2012, Indonesia’ President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) accepted Naidoo’s invitation to visit the ship.

On 25 October 2010, the Rainbow Warrior was escorted out of Indonesian waters after the government refused to let the ship dock in Jakarta. On its current tour, the ship will sail from Papua to Jakarta from May 9 to June 10.
