Vietnamese Tuna Cans Recalled In Samoa Samoa, April 3, 13

Samoa’s Ministry of Health (MOH) has issued a notice to recall all Chefs Choice Tuna cans distributed by Ah Liki Wholesale.

In a copy of the letter received by the Samoa Observer yesterday, the Ministry advised Ah Liki Wholesale to “recall, destroy and withhold” all Chefs Choice Tuna with batch numbers “V12/022835, V12/022837 and V12/022838.”

The cause of the recall could not be confirmed.

Attempts to obtain a comment from the Ministry of Health were unsuccessful.

“Existing and remaining stock of the identified batch numbers of ‘chef’s choice canned tuna’ are to be condemned and destroyed as authorized under the Food and Drugs Act 1967. The Ministry of Health will be in contact and oversee these processes”

The recall notice was issued on 21 March 2013 by Acting Director General of Health, Frances Brebner.

According to Ms.Brebner, the recall was the result of an analysis of Chef’s Choice tuna chunk by the Ministry on 20 March 2013.

Ms. Brebner’s letter reads: “Ministry of Health hereby urgently advises that in order to protect the public, that:

“1. All cans with batch number V12/022835, V12/022838 and V12/022837 are to be immediately withheld from, sale to the public.

“2. Existing and remaining stock of the identified batch numbers of ‘chef’s choice canned tuna’ are to be condemned and destroyed as authorized under the Food and Drugs Act 1967. The Ministry of Health will be in contact and oversee these processes.

“3. We request your urgent assistance to recall all cans already sold to retail shops from the identified batch numbers.”
