Spanish Leader To Expand Tuna Production

The Spanish tuna canning company Grupo Calvo expects to increase its production, now that its factory in Carballo, A Coruña, has obtained the required environment permit. The company hopes to use its increased output to expand into new international markets.
The announcement, published yesterday in the Official Journal of Galicia (DOG), means the cannery meets all the environmental conditions to continue developing its operations.
Last April, Italy’s multinational Bolton Group acquired a 40% share in Calvo, exceeding the amount of EUR 125 million. Bolton controls more than 50% of the canned fish market in Italy with its brand Rio Mare. Italy’s second leading tuna brand is Nostoromo, which is owned by Calvo.
