Japanese Consultants See Abundant Tuna Supply

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has found out tuna seems to be more abundant these days in the southernmost city of General Santos in southern Mindanao, according to a report in the Manila Bulletin.

That’s the impression of the team of consultants from JICA who dropped in recently for an overnight visit to listen to a presentation made by the tuna industry cluster at a local hotel in General Santos City.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) assistant regional director Doris de Lima of Region-12 said they’re happy that the JICA team took the time to travel overland from this city after a series of cluster meetings and sat down with the tuna cluster team for their presentation.

“We’ll show you around and see our tuna industry in action, starting from the fish port to watch the arrival of newly-harvested tuna,” De Lima told the team.

With both Leonardo “Joel” Flores and Edgar Soguilon acting as official DTI guides for the JICA team, seeing the entire tuna industry here in action was probably one of the most productive part of this short visit to this booming city.
