China’s Largest Food Distributor Signs Deal On Canned Tuna Sales

Bright Food Group, the largest food producer and distributor in China, is partnering with South Korean tuna company Dongwon F&B to sell canned tuna to Chinese consumers.
The Chinese canned tuna market is currently quite small – valued at about USD 46 million – but it could grow exponentially as Bright Food has a distribution network of over 10,000 large-scale discount stores and convenience stores. The market is also expected to grow as Chinese earn higher incomes and the demand for fish products increases.

Dongwon is forecasting annual canned tuna sales of USD 463.37 million by 2018 in China, as a result of the new deal. The company first entered the market two years ago when it began selling canned tuna in China through TV home shopping. Last year, its sales in this venture totaled about USD 9.2 million.
