Tuna Fishermen To Receive Online Training Ecuador, March 9, 12

The Undersecretariat of Fisheries Resources (SRP) agreed with the University of San Gregorio de Portoviejo (USGP) to start online training for tuna fishermen from all over the country’s coastal areas.

Representatives of both entities decided to implement the Online Education System of the Training Program for the Organizational Development and Technical Management of the Artisanal Fisheries Sector.

In this regard, SRP head Hugo Vera Serrano stated the proposal aim is to implement a new training style that is organizational, administrative and productive for fishermen.

In addition, the initiative expects to ensure training for microentrepreneurs for them to offer services to the community.

Meanwhile, Mariela Coral López, director of USPG Graphic Design School, explained the online education system will enable fishermen to be trained as entrepreneurs in their own businesses.

Besides, she said that the program was designed through a simple interface for tuna fishermen to use it, consisting of 21 training modules and booklets.

The director of Artisanal Fisheries, Gladys Cedeño Marcillo, said the training software will be installed in the Infocentres built by the Ministry of Telecommunications (Mintel).

The presentation of the system was attended by the Aquaculture and Fisheries Deputy Minister, Ivan Prieto Bowen, via skype.
