Latest Update: Italian Oil Tanker Guards Kill Tuna Fishermen

The latest news just coming in the shooting of 2 Indian tuna fisherman is that they have been killed by the security personnel of the Italian oil tanker Enrica Lexie.
The unfortunate incident has already triggered a diplomatic crisis.  India lodged a strong protest over the killing of its fishermen and decided to register a case against the erring security personnel. Coast Guard has arrested the captain and has taken control over vessel.  The incident occurred on Wednesday night.

According to sources, 11 fishermen were on the boat when the Italian ship came close to the vessel. Two fishermen were awake, while others were at sleep. The security guards of the ship opened fire at Ajesh Binki (25) and Jalastein (45), killing them on the spot.

It is found completely outrageous in India that the captain of the Enrica Lexie did not report the incident to the Indian authorities immediately and reported the Coast Guard two hours later after moving 70km towards Egypt.

Nevertheless the vessel MV Enrica Lexie was later intercepted by the Indian Coast Guard and escorted to Kochi for further investigation. Earlier, the Italian Embassy in India claimed that the ship was attacked by the Indian fishermen first, leading to the disaster.
