IOTC Announces Conservation Measures In Force

The Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) announced last Thursday (August 6th) entry into effect of the conservation and management measures adopted by the 13th session of the Commission and notified on April 08, 2009.
In accordance with Article IX.4 of the IOTC Agreement, the following resolutions adopted by the Commission have now entered into effect:
·         Resolution 09/01 On the performance review follow-up
·         Resolution 09/02 On the implementation of a limitation of fishing capacity of Contracting Parties and Cooperating non-Contracting Parties
·         Resolution 09/03 On establishing a list of vessels presumed to have carried out illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing in the IOTC area
·         Resolution 09/04 On a Regional observer scheme
·         Resolution 09/05 To prohibit the use of large-scale driftnets on the high seas in the IOTC area of competence
·         Resolution 09/06 On marine turtles
