Calvo Expands In Costa Rica At Expense Of Sardimar

Spanish tuna Calvo is one of the brands that registered a steady growth the past three years in the Costa Rican retail market, compared to the rise and fall of the Tesoro del Mar  and Sardimar figures.
The growth in the period 2007-2008 was 183% and for the period 2008-2009 (the cut in May) was 15%.

However, sales growth is still not sufficient to achieve them, according to a study by AC Nielsen, although instability has been repoted, remain at the head of sales.
Sardimar  sold 19,868 million cans in the period 2007-2008 and 18,377 million in 2008-2009 (cutting in May), while Tesoro del Mar took a loss when passing from 12,660 million cans over the period 2006-2007 to 11,251 million in 2007-2008, but recovered a little this year to sell 11,790 million cans.

It should be emphasized that although Sardimar has reported falling sales, but not in income, reflecting an increase in the price of the product. During the period 2007-2008 had sales revenue of $ 28,653,300, while in the period 2008-2009 have been $ 29,783,100.

During the period 2008-2009, in Costa Rica was sold 8.6% fewer cans of tuna.
In general, Costa Ricans stopped buying more than 5 million of tuna in recent years.
The tuna industry in the country  generate a turnover of approximately $ 75 million a year, making it an important market.
