Yemen Wants To Expand Its Canned Tuna Exports

Yemen’s ration of traditional fishing is one of priorities of the ministry for coming period, Deputy Minister of Fisheries Wealth Abdul-Hadi al-Khadar told 26 September weekly.

The weekly made an interview with the deputy minister in which he said that the fisheries exports forms 13.2 percent of non-oil exports, adding that the statistics show that the country’s fisheries reserve are around 850,000 tons.

Some 65,000 people are fishermen and fisheries sector creates around 2,890 jobs yearly, he said.

He made it clear that there are now in Yemen three tuna factories at capacities of 30 million cans per year.
