US Congress Asked For Support After COS Samoa Shut Down

American Samoa’s congressional member Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin has written to the chairmen of the U.S. Congressional money committee asking for a US$20 million supplement to help after a local cannery shuts down.
Chicken of the Sea, Samoa Packing recently decided to close its tuna canning operations in the Territory by the end of September this year.

With the closure of one of the two canneries, Faleomavaega said American Samoa will face a challenge unlike any ever seen.

To assist the territorial government, Faleomavaega has also requested an increased in capital improvement projects and operations funding.

American Samoa already gets about $22 million annually for capital improvement and operations grants.
