Rectification: ISSF Members Are Fishing EPO Bigeye

The article published by entitled “Eastern Pacific Ocean Tuna Red-Listed By ISSF (click here to reed the ISSF article)  wrongly stated that none of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) members operate any tuna fishing fleet in the Eastern Pacific Ocean (EPO), nor market or process bigeye tuna from that particular area.
ISSF Media Relations stated that “Both assertions are incorrect.”
Founding companies of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) are, in fact, “active in the fisheries and in the trade of fish in the EPO which includes bigeye”, and therefore, hereby rectifies the mentioned article.
The foundation didn’t disclose the name of the companies engaged in such activities declaring that “company specific information is proprietary”, but re-affirmed the commitment of ALL its members in refraining from transactions of bigeye tuna caught in the EPO after September 1, 2009 in case the IATTC fail to enact conservation measures consistent with the scientific recommendation of its own staff in order to recover bigeye stocks at the EPO.
