Impress Expands Through Acquisition Share In Spanish Canned Tuna Sector

Global can maker Impress completed the acquisition of the business of Megasa, one of Spain’s leading providers of seafood cans.

Based in Vilagarcia, on the Atlantic coast near Vigo, the factory has sales of approximately Euro 40 million and produces steel cans for the tuna, sardine and shellfish markets in Galicia, home to Europe’s largest seafood processing industry. The acquisition complements the nearby Impress factory in Pontevedra, which produces seafood cans in aluminum.

Impress is based in Deventer, the Netherlands, and had worldwide sales of approximately Euro 1.7 billion in 2008. It is the worldwide leader in the seafood can market. It employs approximately 8,000 people in 55 facilities in 21 countries in Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Seychelles and Morocco.
