Cut In Japanese Quota Results To Record Tuna Catches In Australia

South Australia’s tuna industry is looking at one of its best seasons ever, with 190,000 fish being caught.

President of the Tuna Boat Owners Association, Brian Jeffriess, says the cut in Japan’s tuna fishing quota, to prevent over-fishing, has led to more stocks being available off the coast of Australia.

He says not only is the quantity up, but so is the quality.

”It’s certainly the best that I have seen in 22 years, in terms of the size of the fish, the easy availability and the quality of them, and the fatness when we bring them in.”
