12% Of Japanese Longliners Tuna Fishing Boats To Retire By March End

The Fisheries Agency said Thursday some 12 percent of Japanese longline tuna fishing boats will be retired by the end of this month in response to tougher international restrictions on tuna catches.

While Japan has 739 longline tuna fishing boats, 87 of them - 64 for deep-see fishing and 23 for coastal fishing - will be decommissioned, the agency said.
